Bird Baths
A bird bath is an easy and affordable way to enhance and beautify your garden environment. A well-placed bird bath adds a touch of elegance. With the huge variety of bird baths out there, we're providing a brief bird bath buying guide.
General information
There are a few general guidelines to follow when installing a bird
bath. It's important that the bath has a shallow pool of water and a large enough
ledge for the birds to light upon. The surface needs enough traction to allow
birds to land safely. A shallow pool will keep birds and other creatures from
drowning. It's also wise to frequently change the water in the bath. This
will keep your bird bath looking new and will ensure birds continue to drink
from it. Another good idea is to place the bird bath away from frequently used
doors or other high-traffic areas. Birds must feel safe and will avoid a bath
they feel is too close to humanity. Keeping the bath elevated and out of reach
of predators is also important. Here's a quick look at some of the types of
bird baths available.
Traditional
The most common type of bath is the pedestal version. This bath comes in a variety of materials including copper, granite and aluminum.
Hanging
Hanging baths are perfect outside of a window. Because of the reflected light from the glass, birds are unaware that they're being watched.
Heated
For colder climates the heated version is ideal. Heated
baths keep birds coming back all through the winter months. There are electric
baths and solar-heated baths.
Fountains
The soothing sound of trickling water adds a unique dimension to the yard or garden. This makes a great addition to a pond or is nice standing alone.
Attract colorful birds into your backyard or garden with a beautiful bird bath.
Whether you're a bird watcher or a weekend gardener, a bird bath is sure to
bring many hours of enjoyment. Don't forget to offer your feathered friends
a feeder and maybe a bird
house as well.
